The 300G copper nugget i found it dredging with the same sluice box. It is a good idea to experiment with different water flows, angles of the sluice box, riffle types, and types of matting to increase fine gold recovery. Also would love to see a pic of your subbie □ The rest is a diminishing return situation. The riffles have better performance at steeper slopes because the increased slurry velocity provides more energy for the vortex. My advice is to add miners moss over the ribbed matting and nothing more needs to be done. These riffles should have a two inch gap (3 inches on center line), be tilted at 15 degrees upstream (relative to the sluice run) in a sluice run with a slope of 3 inches/foot. I did add a river sluice behind my box at one point and the extra box being wider did help but back to more complex. Larger riffles create deeper, more turbulent pockets and vice versa. Air blows up from the bottom and provides some buoyancy for lighter material. The whole thing is set on a steep angle so that the material can work its way over the riffles. Just keep in mind not to hog the material and overload the riffle tray, that's where I get goofed up. The sluice portion of a dryswasher has a porous bottom, either canvas or a very fine screen, that allows air to pass through. Where underflow riffles parameters are i n the position. but can do really well on the chunky nugget stuff, bird shot on up. sluice box provides Sn concentrate res ults with high Sn grade and recovery thr ough the influence of underflow riffles and slope positions. Basically the sub surface dredge is a poor choice for an area that has lots of fine gold. All the nuggets got caught in the first or second riffle, the fines are another story. I don't believe I lost any gold that had size to it. Use of expanded metal or angle iron is stated to, severely reduces the opportunity for gravels and anything but very coarse gold and nuggets to enter the riffles.or those of you wanting to build your own sluice box, a 15 degree upstream angle is needed on riffles, and a slope of 12-15 degrees of your sluice box in the creek. I did have success with a sump set up that fed to a small 2 inch dredge but let that go due to the fact it was complex and negated the benefit of a light weight sub surface dredge. Use a screen to remove large rocks and debris that can clog up a sluice box. ![]() Before you feed your sluice, classify the materials.
